Verdae Philosophy

Why "Verdae"?

You won't find Verdae in a dictionary.

In creating this business, I tossed around various words that could accurately describe my goal of creating clean and natural, but luxurious products that first do no harm.

Verdure: The fresh green color of vegetation. A condition of freshness.

Verdant: Green with grass, or other rich vegetation.

Veritas: Truth. Reality. Goddess of Truth. (The latter really resonated with me)

None of them seemed to fit, and the ones that came close were already copyrighted.

So I made up my own.

Verdae

Turns out that is the name of a property development company in South Carolina but there's no overlap there with self-care products and candles SO that works for me! :)

Verdae is a recipe:

One part 30-something-year-old new mom who needs to feed her creative, artistic side.

One part formal education in Biology, Chemistry, and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

One part years of clinical experience using Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat patients with severe symptoms associated with hormonal imbalances. These imbalances are, in my professional opinion, at least partially due to exposure to environmental toxins, chemicals, and stressors.

One part first-hand, personal experience with the heartache and repercussions of the exposure to environmental toxins, chemicals and stressors: Irregular cycles, ovarian tumors, and miscarriages.

One part assessment of products used in my daily life that unknowingly exposed me to said environmental toxins, chemicals and stressors.

Finally, one part desire to create products that promote the stress-relieving benefits of self-care routines AND also minimize exposure to said environmental toxins, chemicals, and stressors.

And so, Verdae was born. My goal is to create products that make you feel warm, beautiful, comforted, and taken care of without all of the junk ingredients like parabens, phthalates, or the chemicals on the prop-65 list. You shouldn't have to sacrifice your health or the health of your family to enjoy the little luxuries of life. My dream is for Verdae to become so much more than just a candle store, and I have big plans for expanding my product offerings. Stay tuned.

With love,

Kerry Gilbert
